Nearly Three-Quarters of Homes Sold at Development in Stockton

Nearly three-quarters of the homes at a new Bellway development in Stockton have been sold, with the majority being snapped up by local buyers. Bellway is building 80 new homes at Old School Gardens, on the former site of Blakeston School, which closed its doors in 2013.

The developer is delivering 68 new homes for private sale and 12 affordable homes which will be made available to local people though rent or shared ownership. Bellway has sold 57 of the private homes at the site off Blakeston Lane.

Hayley Teasdale, Sales Manager for Bellway Durham, said: “Old School Gardens is proving to be a particularly desirable location for house buyers because it is in a lovely rural setting yet is only three miles from Stockton town centre.

“We had so many enquiries about the development right from the start that we brought forward the launch and released the first homes for sale last year. This high level of demand shows no signs of waning.

“What we have seen is that the vast majority of buyers have been local people. There has been interest from further afield but the desire to stay in the area is proving powerful.

“A lot of young first-time buyers have taken advantage of the Help to Buy scheme to get onto the property ladder here. Meanwhile, a fair number of families have bought homes at Old School Gardens because they appreciate that they have easy access to the countryside, where they get outdoors by going for a walk with the children and the dog.

“Buyers also like the fact that there is a large Lidl supermarket just across from the development.”

Bellway has so far built and handed over 13 of the private homes and six of the affordable homes at the Stockton development.

Hayley said: “It is lovely to see the first residents moving in and a new community taking shape. Construction work is on schedule and we hope that all the homes will be finished and ready to move into by the end of 2022.

“There is a proven need for high-quality new homes in the Stockton area and the success we have experienced here tells us that the balance of location, price and the home itself are precisely what people are looking for.”

A selection of three and four-bedroom homes are still available to reserve at Old School Gardens, with prices starting at £174,995.
