Luxury kitchen and interior design specialists, Brandt Design, anticipate the latest trends for the home in 2024 by revealing its top predictions for the UK kitchen and how next level personalisation is top priority…
Julia Steadman, Commercial Director at Brandt Design says, “Today’s homes are no longer constrained by a desire to follow fashion, as many of us are keen to express our own personal style by seeking out solutions which are uniquely tailored to the household. As such, carefully considered design elements that are neutral in tone and raw in texture will continue to shape home interiors next year, and encourage more ‘one of a kind’ kitchen schemes that offer designer comfort and convenience.”
So, what key kitchen trends should you look out for in 2024? Julia shares her top style predictions below:
WORK AND PLAY: 2024 is all about shaping the kitchen space in line with your home and lifestyle, with equal thought now being given to functional spaces, as well as relaxation areas. This demand for work and play in the home is noting an upward trend for including more individual ideas like a games table, chill-out area to watch TV or an integrated home bar to entertain friends and family in the comfort of home. Whatever your particular interest is, the only rule for kitchen design in 2024 is to please yourself!
FORCE OF NATURE: Wood continues to be a widely used design element in the contemporary kitchen and it remains at the heart of the 2024 kitchen, as many of us look to nature for a sense of calm and wellbeing. Ideal for bringing a timeless feel to your home, introducing the raw texture of wood in the kitchen is a masterful way to add warmth, and next year’s blend of wood and white will continue to embrace the ever-popular Scandinavian style design, which is characterised by clean lines, light colours, and natural materials. If you have the space, err towards an open plan kitchen arrangement as this will ensure you’re able to cook, eat, entertain, and relax in one space and remember, you don’t have to opt for an all-wood kitchen as this type of material is perfect for select pieces of furniture, worktops, cupboard interiors, flooring, and depicting your home’s architecture.
CUPBOARD LOVE: Kitchen furniture is evolving in 2024 with dedicated storage stations being designed into the kitchen to support day-to-day life, from early starts and coffee breaks to working from home and well-deserved downtime. The latest designer wirework, integrated lighting and storage components will make the most of all your available space and we predict that full height runs of cabinetry and multifunctional island units will be a number one priority in 2024.
When it comes to the central island, then it’s safe to say the traditional block design is a thing of the past and now, bar-style designs with split level countertops and complementary seating are the norm. Allowing friends and family to be amongst the action, the island unit is your best resource for creating a central hub in the home, while establishing a visual barrier between the kitchen and living space.
Discreet runs of full width, full height units are also providing a range of storage options for the contemporary lifestyle and 2024 will see a rise in demand for dedicated coffee stations, breakfast cupboards, and larder storage that not only maximise space, but make everyday living that bit more convenient.
STATEMENT SURFACES: Durable, high impact surfaces will be in demand for the busy home and lifestyle in 2024, as hybrid living places new pressure on the kitchen to support everything from quick food prep to formal entertaining and more recently, working from home. Robust and excellent value for money, quartz is my top tip for next year, available in a range of thicknesses and a popular worktop choice for kitchen islands, peninsulas, breakfast bars, and even flooring! Incredibly strong, highly durable and beautiful to look at, a quartz countertop is all your kitchen needs and in 2024, look out for undercounter solutions like slimline drawers to hide away utensils, and pop-up power points to charge up your laptop or follow a recipe with ease!
